The Map

In my opinion, any travel story worth reading about will be accompanied by a good map.  As a traveler, maps are crucial, on par I would say with water and food.  They are the life blood of a trip- they inspire you to adventure, and they remind you of adventures past.  There is nothing more powerful to get my pulse beating, and my thoughts set on the horizon, than looking at a bold red line drawn purposefully across a map.  And if I have already traveled that line, it serves as a linear representation of my memories- every inch a discrete experience, every curve a curve in my life.  For that is what a map can be, a traveler’s entire story, succinctly summarized and easily expressed, with a few strokes of a sharpie on a rumpled map spread across the table.

Well, in this case, google is my sharpie, and this website is my table.  The following maps are a year of our life, and I am hoping you will agree, a story worth reading…

The maps are interactive- click on a blue dot to see information about places we stayed and click on the colored lines to find out about our route.  The blue links in the pop-up balloons are connected to corresponding entries with additional details, on other pages of the website.  The maps were created using a log book we fastidiously kept during our trip- which information has also been provided on the Trip Driving Log and Where We Stayed pages.
