All Roads Lead to Rome

CHAPTER 25

Rome has to be at the top, or at least near the top of everyone’s bucketlist. There’s just no place like it. And even if you have seen it all before, which Kacey and I both had, separately, it still strikes you as implausibly impressive, as if you are seeing it fresh for the first time.

Despite a few logistical hiccups at the start, namely the Berber sword, which I purchased in Morocco against all reasonable objections, and which I plan to prominently hang above my mantel and pass on to my grandchildren’s grandchildren, got lost by the airline; and the slightly embarrassing fact that we, and by “we” I mean “I”, messed up the small detail of which airport Kacey’s parents were flying into- things went pretty smoothly for us in Rome. Our first day was filled by checking off a few of our favorite attractions: making a wish and throwing a coin over your shoulder into the Trevi Fountain, staring up at the oculus of the Pantheon, and watching the sun set from the Spanish Steps.
