The Marrakech Express

CHAPTER 24

Our time in Morocco was quickly coming to an end. Our last day in Fez we dropped off Dusty at the car agency, packed up all of our trinkets and souvenirs from our trip thus far into a giant box, crossed our fingers, and gave it to DHL (only about half the stuff inside arrived to Colorado broken, which I was actually pleasantly surprised by!), said goodbye to Taylor as he boarded a bus back to Rich, and then hightailed it to the train station for our own departure back to Marrakech. That’s right, we were taking The Marrakech Express!

Ok, maybe that is a bit cheesy- it wasn’t really the express, just a normal train from Fez to Marrakech- but I have a weakness for doing… well, I can’t seem to find the right word, but basically cheesy things in places that sound the same, like eating a hamburger in Hamburg, or saying “what a nice city” when talking about Nice, France, or in this case, riding the Marrakech Express to Marrakech while listening to the Marrakech Express by CSN.

In any case, the train ride was great, but for the life of me, I don’t know why I didn’t take one photo of the trip!? I can’t remember if maybe my camera battery was dead? (not likely, I usually have a bunch of spares, and a bunch of cameras for that matter), or perhaps I mistakenly deleted the photos from the card before I saved them? (also rather unlikely based on my normal photo editing routine). But for whatever reason I don’t have a single picture, so you’re just going to have to go and take the Marrakech Express yourself if you want to know what it looks like! Just remember to bring CSN with you!

When we got to Marrakech, we found another lovely riad, checked out the Jemaa el-Fnaa one last time, had some extremely flamboyant cocktails at Hotel La Mamounia (Winston Churchill’s favorite haunt, and recently titled the “Best Hotel in the World” by Condé Nast), and the next day found ourselves at the airport for our flights onward- Jake and Jackie back to London, and us, to Rome.

Au revoir Morocco, you were good to us. Hopefully we will meet again, inshallah!
